Jakki Brown
Jackie Ray Brown is a renaissance man. Born in Louisiana and reared in Yakima, Washington, he is a Stanford University Hall of Fame running back and Academic All-American, multitalented Seattle lawyer, and father of two sons. In the same fine and dynamic spirit of Paul Robeson, Brown continues the tradition of star athlete who thinks deeply, revealing profound and contemporary ideas and expressions in the arts. Robeson primarily on the stage; Brown as poet. He has been writing for thirty years.
As author he has just published his first book of poems and released a companion cassette of selected readings with original musical composition under the name JAKKI. Shape of Woman, Book One: Romance is the first of a series that celebrates woman. Book Two: Sensitive Healing will be published next year along with a children's book of poetry, Hopscotch & Jacks. Shape of Woman is seductive, rhythmic poetry that enhances a healing dialogue between the sexes, like nothing else on the market. It is provocative and sensitive, designed to reach the masses regardless of color. It has a universal message and tone; a timely work that captures the rhythm of intimacy and daring.
Selected Verses
I love the shape of woman
sensuous curves and movements
a real valentine which becomes
all of one and the same,
the shape.
She danced with grace, joy,
and freedom as i remembered,
finding that space reserved for her
for the moment.
a solitary rose, even a dozen
i will give to you
in a quiet moment
alone.
